All new phones sold in the European Union from December 28 will be required to have a USB-C port. With just a week to go, Apple has begun pulling the iPhone SE, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus from its online stores, the last models to use a Lightning port instead of USB-C. Details in our news…
Apple begins pulling iPhone SE, iPhone 14 and 14 Plus from Europe
According to the latest information, if you try to buy these models in Apple’s Swiss online store, you will be greeted with a “currently unavailable” warning in all configurations. However, online stores in other EU countries such as France and Spain still have these phones in stock.
The December 28 regulation was the main reason for Apple to switch to USB-C on iPhone 2023 models in 15. But it remains unclear why Apple acted early in Switzerland to stop the sale of models using the older Lightning port. It is not yet clear whether Apple will pull these models in other European countries.
It is not possible for Apple not to comply with this regulation. The USB-C port has been standardized by the European Union and affects all manufacturers. iPhone SE is rumored to be released in early 2025 with a fourth-generation model with features such as USB-C port and OLED display.
There was no comment from Apple on this early withdrawal. But similar steps are expected to be taken in other EU countries as the December 28 deadline approaches. What do you think about this? You can write your opinions in the comments section below…
